I hope you had put stabilizer in the gas and ran it for a little bit last year before putting your mower away. If by some chance you did not do that then you may  be in for a costly repair. The very first thing you need to do is charge the battery if you have one, the reason being if the battery is low and you put a try to start it it will do they call cap the battery. The battery will never hold a charge above the point again you can charge it all you like it will come back to that point and stay. With the electronics today on mower you need good batters for the equipment to work , here are a couple thing you will notice with a bad battery the pto will not stay in caged the motor cutoff .

Alright if the battery is bad replace it before you burn up that pto clutch that is about a $400 repair on the average. That $40 battery is looking cheaper all ready. Well mowing on crank the mower and let it warm up good turn the blades on and drive it around making sure nothing is wrong with the mower now it time to do the service.

The air filter need to be replaced  change the oil and oil filter replace spark  fuel filter sharpen and balance the blades check the belts if  cracks or burnt marks replace them if rolled over in the pulley replace them. once the belts roll over in the pulley they are damaged and will never run  right again.

Check the  tires if tires are flat fix.  Flat tire are the number one resume for uneven cut  The tire pressure for the rear tire is #10 -#15 and the tire pressure for the front is #20 Grease all the grease fitting, check you owner manual for grease fitting location but front wheels king pins blade spindles idler arms are all places to look for grease fittings.

Once all this is done clean off the mower deck need to keep the mower deck clean the grass clipping will go threw a heat and rust out the  deck fast. Alright back to the motor you need to clean the screen on the top of the motor(flywheel screen) this is where the engine gets its cooling are from if real bad you will need to pull top cover and clean under the cover good as well if this is allowed to build up it will cause the motor to over heat that can cause permenant damage.

All these steps are simple but must be done every year to have a trouble free season. You may still have a few problems put you will have a lot less and I promise you the cost of the problems will be much less. Like any thing else if you keep it up it don’t cost you as must to run it.
